Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has revealed he recently had a ‘really painful’ cancer scare.

The 54-year-old former WWE legend found a lump in one of his testicles while showering, leaving him fearing that he could be dead before his next birthday.

In a new interview with Esquire, Johnson said he found the lump that ‘hurt when he touched it’, just before he was scheduled to attend a promotional event for Jumanji: Open World alongside co-stars Kevin Hart and Jack Black.

The wrestler-turned-actor admitted that he didn’t even tell his wife Lauren Hashian.

"I didn't want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about,” he said.

Johnson later visited his doctor who told him it was ‘probably epididymitis’ - an inflammation of the tube at the back of the testicle - but also warned that it ‘could be cancer’.

His doctor told him he would need to get an ultrasound of his testicle the following morning, the day after the Jumanji press event.

“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” he told the publication.

Thankfully, he was given the all-clear and the lump was found to be epididymitis.

“By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful,” he admitted.

Last year, Johnson shocked fans by showcasing a noticeably trimmer physique than the usual man-mountain we’re used to seeing.

In an interview with LADbible, Johnson explained that he’d slimmed down for a new role.

"I gained 30 pounds to play Mark Kerr and then came back down after that to my normal weight of around 250(lbs) or so,” he told us.

"Now I'm in the process of slimming down where I play a 70-something year-old man. So the slimming down is happening.”

He went on to stress that he didn’t go to ‘extremes’ to gain or lose weight.

“We have time to do it, which is really nice,” he added.

"There's nothing extreme about it. I can't wait, because, again, it's the opportunity that I have where I can immerse myself into something and disappear."

He described the weight gain as 'hard' and 'challenging', noting: "I put on five pounds here, 10 pounds there, for roles in the past, but 30 because Mark was so much, in a way, bigger, and his body was built differently... you realise it's actually so hard."
