Ellen DeGeneres made the decision to flee the US when Donald Trump came into power and settled down in the UK.

After initially relocating to Britain on a part-time basis, the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host, 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, decided to stick around for a much 'simpler' life in the Cotswolds.

"It's absolutely beautiful," Ellen told her social media followers. "We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.

"It's clean. Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.

Around a year later, however, the Daily Mail has reported that the pair have unexpectedly been spending more time in the US.

A source told the outlet that the couple are not big fans of the British winter (I mean, who is?) and are 'missing their friends' in California.

"Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the UK while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she's changed her mind somewhat," the source claimed.

"She's been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can't take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again. They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it.

"Ellen was very clear that they're coming back to California sooner rather than later. They miss the warm weather and their friends."

Married in 2008, the pair initially made their home at Kitesbridge Farm in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire.

But after placing the 43-acre estate on the market for £22.5 million in July, they moved on to a hilltop mansion with plenty of space for their horses.

DeGeneres previously said during an appearance at the Everyman theatre in Cheltenham that Trump getting elected made them want to stay in the UK.

She also feared that the 'Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage'.

"We got here [to the UK] the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in'. And we're like, 'We're staying here'," the ex-presenter, who quit her hit TV show over allegations of a toxic workplace, said.
