Emily Willis’ lawyer has issued a positive health update after she suffered a heart attack and 'irreversible brain damage' in 2024.

The adult film star - whose real name is Litzy Lara Banuelos - was allegedly left permanently disabled following a serious cardiac arrest at Summit Malibu rehab facility. She was attending the clinic to help treat her ketamine addiction.

Following the incident, Willis' mum Yesenia Lara Cooper filed a lawsuit against Summit Malibu, and its parent company Malibu Lighthouse Treatment Centers in December 2024.

According to court documents, Cooper claims Willis’ health deteriorated during her stay and that she experienced symptoms such as dehydration, infection, and severe physical distress that were not properly addressed by staff.

On February 4, 2024, she was found unconscious at the facility and it took 30 to 40 minutes of CPR before a pulse returned.

The prolonged lack of oxygen allegedly caused irreversible brain damage, leaving Willis with severe paralysis and long-term disability.

Positive health update

As reported by The Mirror US, the lawyer who is representing Willis and Cooper said 'fortunately, Litzy is improving, although be it slow and arduous'.

James A. Morris, Jr said: "Litzy is a fighter and is committed to returning to a functional lifestyle that will ease any burden on others to care for her."

He previously told PornCrush: “She was in the danger zone the moment she walked through the doors.

“She needed very, very intense medical treatment.

“They didn’t diagnose that upon entry, nor did they monitor carefully enough how quickly she was digressing.”

Settlement update

MyNewsLA.com reported last week that a tentative settlement has been reached with Summit Malibu.

While no terms have been revealed, the outlet said 'Summit Malibu’s attorneys filed court papers on 24 February with Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Mark A. Young notifying him of a 'conditional' accord in the case brought by Yesenia Lara Cooper, along with the expectation a request for dismissal will be filed by 1 September'.

Summit Malibu's lawyers previously claimed in court papers that Willis 'had refused to follow medical recommendations and take her medications'.

They said Willis declined the staff’s recommendation that she be transported to a hospital prior to suffering the heart attack, claiming: "She refused to go to urgent care or the hospital voluntarily, despite being encouraged to do so by [Summit Malibu]."
