With six episodes, Gordon Ramsay’s new docuseries is out today (18 February).

Made with Netflix, the fly-on-the-wall watch follows the chef as he takes on his most ambitious project yet - opening five dining concepts at 22 Bishopsgate, London’s second tallest building.

But it also gives us a bit more of an insight into the 59-year-old as he opens up about his family life and background.

And this includes Ramsay talking more about his brother’s heroin addiction and upbringing. During an interview on camera, the dad-of-six says: “I’m not embarrassed of my past. I got dealt a dysfunctional card. Big f**king deal.”

Watch the trailer here and be warned, it contains some classic Gordon Ramsay strong language:

The chef goes on to say that he ‘was so close to not making it’ as he explains it’s ‘what keeps me going’.

This leads to Ramsay opening up: “I have a brother who’s a heroin addict. We shared a bunk bed together. He’s 15 months younger than me, and he’s been an addict for the last four decades. I’ve gone to hell and back with him, and so I have a guilt complex.”

He says this has the thought process of: “That could’ve been me, it could’ve been switched.”

The chef continues: “And so, when that… when that change is so close to you… it’s your brother, right? It’s not a cousin. It’s not a mate down the pub. It’s your brother. Born in the same house, grew up in the same bedroom, shared bunk beds, and so similar… But how can it be so different now? That’s what I mean by that [being so close to not making it is what keeps him going].”

Getting pretty deep in the documentary, Ramsay adds: “If you ask me ‘what scares you?’ I’m gonna tell you what scares me.”

The chef told LADbible he is ‘too honest’ to have ‘sanitised’ any part of the new Netflix series – and that includes the process of opening the restaurant as well as his personal life.

“We ripped off the Band Aid,” he explains. “I need to do stuff that is raw. I need less shiny and more real. And I think that's me.”

Being Gordon Ramsay is now streaming on Netflix.
