Jennette McCurdy has opened up about a ‘creepy’ relationship she had with an older man as a teenager.

Originally best known for her role on the TV show iCarly as Sam, McCurdy has found a second life of fame for her frank book, I’m Glad My Mom Died.

In this, she opened up about not just her relationship with her emotionally abusive mother, but also some of the awful experiences she had as a young celebrity in the late 00s.

Now, though McCurdy is releasing her first novel, Half His Age, a dark comedy about a teenager who starts a relationship with an older man, she has spoken out about having gone through a similar experience in her teen years.

Appearing on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, McCurdy opened up about the relationship.

She spoke on the podcast about how she met the man, who was in his 30s, when she was 18, describing how he would show her music and films he ‘thought she would like’, which she 'did not like, but I pretended to like'.

Speaking about the relationship, she told Cooper: “It was just exhausting.

“I remember he came over drunk one night to my apartment. At this point, I’ve moved out of my mom’s, red flags all over, I've been living away from my mom for maybe two months, and I'm like: 'Great, okay, a relationship. That'll be great.'

“He comes over, and he has beer stains on his shirt, and he's bumbling around.”

McCurdy spoke about how, at this point, she had never drunk any alcohol, so she didn’t have a frame of reference for how drunk he was.

She added: “He was drunk off his ass, but I didn't know. Did you drink one drink, and that's how drunk you are? How drunk is one drink? How drunk is 10 drinks?

“So he comes over really drunk, and we make out, and it's a lot of dry humping. And it's that for months.”

She said sadly that she felt pressured to be intimate before she was ready in the relationship, and that he had been dating someone when they first got together, though he had broken up with her, yet kept saying she couldn’t ‘fulfil his needs’.

Ultimately, she booked a hotel room for the two of them after her mother was planning to stay at her apartment after being hospitalised from a seizure, emphasising how young she was at the time, and he came over drunk and insisted she perform oral sex on him.

As an 18-year-old who was raised Mormon, he had to explain to her what this is, saying that it was her ‘entry point’ to sexual acts, saying: “Now it's funny, but at the time, it was really uncomfortable, and it was difficult to kind of regroup.”

She added that she 'hadn't felt a deep connection with anybody my age at that point yet', and he had attempted to justify their relationship by saying she was 'so mature' and 'I can't believe how smart you are'.

McCurdy continued: “Like, you kidding me? I was such an idiot. I'm so embarrassed. Also, how humiliating that he thought that was smart.”
