Johnny Depp, 60, addresses rumours he's dating 20-year-old Jenna Ortega

Johnny Depp, 60, addresses rumours he's dating 20-year-old Jenna Ortega

Depp's reps released a statement after Ortega called the whole thing 'ridiculous'

Johnny Depp has addressed the rumours that he’s dating Jenna Ortega.

Recent speculation suggested that the 20-year-old star of Netflix’s Wednesday is seeing the 60-year-old actor.

It came after celebrity gossip account, Deuxmoi, claimed that the two had been seen together.

Ortega herself previously debunked the rumour after theories also suggested Depp, who has appeared in eight of Tim Burton's movies, could be starring in his upcoming sequel Beetlejuice 2.

She took to her Instagram story to shut down the rumours that she’s dating the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh." she said. "I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”

Not long after Ortega’s post, Depp’s reps also dispelled the dating rumours – as well as appearing to shut down any hopes that he’ll be appearing alongside her in the upcoming fantasy comedy film.

According to NME, they said: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her.

“He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”

So that puts to bed any ideas that the 60-year-old is dating the 40-year-old.

But it also means Depp isn’t apparently going to feature in the new Tim Burton project either.

Beetlejuice 2 is, however, confirmed to star Ortega alongside the likes of icons Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. It’s currently set to be released in 2024.

And the X star has previously been very open about how social media trolls have affected her during a discussion for Variety’s Actors-on-Actors series with Elle Fanning.

“Social media, what it does to anyone our age, it’s such a comparing game,” she said.

“It influences bandwagon mentality. It’s very manipulative."

Discussing the consciousness of being careful with what she shares on social media, Ortega added: “They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way that you don’t always expect.”

Breaking down in tears, she said: "It’s so strange. Sorry, I didn’t mean to do this. It’s such a hard thing to balance. Because how do you be honest without jeopardising your own health and safety? It’s very easy to feel almost out of control."
