The 2018 Love Island winner Jack Fincham has been jailed for six weeks after pleading guilty to two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog.

His jail term comes after his dog, a black Cane Corso called Elvis, bit a man in Kent in 2022.

Prosecutor Erin Peck said that after the dog bit a runner, a man named Robert Sudell, Fincham was cautioned and told to go in for a responsible dog ownership course.

Mr Sudell had also accepted an apology after being bitten.

Among the conditions placed on Fincham were that he keep his dog muzzled, but in June last year there was an incident in Essex where the Cane Corso was out of control and he was later charged.

At the time the dog bit a man in Kent, Fincham had been subjected to a suspended sentence of 12 weeks custody suspended for 18 months for an unrelated driving matter.

The judge said 'we find no reason not to' activate the order and said that the Love Island winner would be jailed for six weeks.

"The dog was in a public place not abiding by the conditions to be muzzled and kept on a lead," presiding magistrate Anne Wade said.

Along with his six week jail sentence, Fincham was ordered to pay £3,680 in total.

Among those charges was a £2,000 contribution to kennelling costs, a fine of £961 and £200 compensation to Mr Sudell.

Fincham's representative Richard Cooper said that he 'has no savings', with Wade saying that he could pay his fines in £400 instalments.

The former Love Island star has also been ordered to keep Elvis muzzled, keep the dog on a lead and not to let the dog be alone with anyone under the age of 16.

The Cane Corso is an Italian breed of Mastiff, and is a large animal that is sometimes used as a guard dog.

Back when the XL Bully ban was being worked on Cathy Billington, of the Animals in Need sanctuary, mentioned the Cane Corso as one of the breeds that could be worse than the dangerous dogs.

She said: "The problem is always going to be breeding of dogs.

"Because we are having every backyard breeder breeding these XL bullies that aren't being socialised, aren't being trained properly.

"You then ban the XL bullies, they'll move onto the Cane Corsos, the Presa Canarios - which you do not want on the streets, you really don't.

"They're going to be worse than the XL bullies in regard to bite factor."

Both the Cane Corso and the Presa Canario are larger than the XL Bully.
