Actor Matthew Perry died yesterday (28 October) aged 54 - and Friends fans have gathered to pay tribute to him on his final Instagram post.

He was perhaps best known as Chandler Bing from the beloved sitcom Friends.

Perry’s death has been treated as a ‘water rescue’ according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson after he was reportedly found in a hot tub at his home in LA.

NBC (the network which aired Friends) confirmed the sad news in a statement: “We are incredibly saddened by the too soon passing of Matthew Perry.

“He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.”

There is currently no confirmed cause of death.

There was also no sign of apparent foul play and an investigation is currently ongoing.

Tributes have flooded in for Perry following the tragic news of his death.

Paget Brewster, who played Chandler’s girlfriend Kathy in season four of Friends, wrote on X: “He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after.

“Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won’t rest in peace though. He’s already too busy making everyone laugh up there.”

“Fellow actor Selma Blair wrote: "All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams.”

Just five days before his death, Perry shared a post to Instagram, chilling in a hot tub.

Sitting in against the backdrop of a dark sky and wearing headphones, he wrote in the caption: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I'm Mattman.”

And Friends fans have since flocked to this post to pay tribute and praise the actor in the comments.

Another commented: “Watching Friends will never be the same.

“He was a legend idk what to say I am about to cry.”

“Thank you and I hope you know how much you were and will be loved.”

One said: “I did survive very stressful times thanks to him and the rest of the gang. Feels like losing a friend, doesn’t it?”

Another wrote: “I’ve dreaded this day my whole life.”

Many also agreed: “We all lost a Friend today.”

Someone else commented: “Thank you for all of the laughter and joy you brought to the world. I hope you are at peace, and know how much you were beloved - truly beloved - by the world. Rest peacefully, F.R.I.E.N.D.”
