Miley Cyrus says that her mum, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, encouraged her to stay in relationships with the ‘wrong guys’ simply because they were ‘hot’.
In a pretty rare happening, the pair joined the singer’s two sisters, Brandi and Noah, for a joint interview as they discussed ‘Cyrus lore’.
The family has been surrounded by drama over the years, with Tish’s divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus in April 2022 and their children reportedly ‘choosing sides’. As well as the three daughters, the pair also share a son, Braison, who along with Noah was not present at Tish’s wedding to Dominic Purcell in 2023.
Miley seems to have been more so on her mum’s side of things, saying she’s her ‘hero’ but that she learned about handling fame from her dad. But it seems like dating wasn’t something her mum was such a help with either.

Speaking to The Cut, the daughters called Tish their ‘go-to’ for getting things done but not necessarily for relationship advice.
When asked about ‘what they’ve learned the hard way’, Noah responded: “My last relationship.”
“That was a big one,” Tish noted before Miley quipped: “Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ‘cause they’re hot.”
Before her current relationship with drummer Maxx Morando, the Hannah Montana star has dated Cody Simpson, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Nick Jonas as well as her infamous marriage to Liam Hemsworth.
Tish then backed herself as she said: “Well, that was great advice because after so many years, you’re kind of over it and you’re like —”
But the ‘Flowers’ singer cut her off to say: “What do you mean?”
“In a relationship. At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!” the mum said.
Miley clearly disagrees with her mum though as she says she’s ended up with someone who treats her ‘really well and respects me’.
“I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself,” she added.
Noah said she’s in the same boat as her big sister as the singer added: “I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves.
"Mom was like 'they need to be tall'."
Miley did make it known that her partner now is still ‘hot as hell’ but importantly, ‘respects’ her.
Brandi also pointed out that Tish has ‘evolved’ as the women agreed it’s because she ‘found someone that is hot and respects her’ in Purcell.
“That’s always the goal,” Miley added.
