Nathan Fielder’s latest project is breaking records within days of its limited release but it’s certainly not the first time his work has been praised.
His documentary, You Can See Everything, went instantly viral when the trailer revealed the secret filming and displayed bizarre tension between him and Elizabeth Holmes.
Marking the comedian’s first feature film, it somehow seems to fit in as a progression from his previous parodies and series.
In 2023, he co-created The Curse with Benny Safdie, starring alongside pal Emma Stone as a husband and wife who co-star in a show.

His interviews and appearances around that went viral at the time and Fielder explained that he ‘didn’t feel’ anything for the actor during their love scenes. And that contrasts Stone who says it is ‘real for a minute’.

During an episode of The Rehearsal (Fielder’s docu-comedy), he spoke to the Poor Things star about the boundaries and emotions actors experience while performing these scenes as characters.
“When I'm approaching a love scene — obviously I know it's not real real, but it was real for a minute, you know what I mean?” Stone said.
And Fielder quizzed: “It's real for you when you're doing it?”
While she said ‘it’s happening while it’s happening’, he clarified that it’s ‘not real real’.
But Stone said ‘the emotions feel real’ as she confirmed: “It feels like I'm like, 'Oh, I really, I feel this way about this person right now.'"
Following this, Fielder’s narration went on to discuss their time on The Curse together as he referenced her comments as ‘confusing to me’.
“In the show, I had to act as a husband who was deeply in love with his wife," he explained.
"But even though I was mimicking the expressions of a man in love, inside my head, I didn't feel that at all for the actress playing my wife."

Fielder said he was ‘basically just copying the expressions of other people in love’ that he’d watched on shows and in films.
“So I didn't understand how an actor can be feeling real love in a completely fake relationship,” he added.
Of course, Fielder’s new doc directed with Lance Oppenheim about Holmes is very different from these projects. But at the same time, the reviews and response suggests it has that Fielder feel to it.
Shot and produced in secret over three years, the filmmakers moved in with Holmes and her boyfriend 34 days before she began her 11-year prison sentence. Having released at the weekend, You Can See Everything currently the highest-rated film on Letterboxd.
