Phoebe Dynevor, star of Remain trailer freaking everybody out, is related to iconic British TV mum

The star of a new trailer for a M. Night Shyamalan movie is the daughter of a British soap opera icon.

Phoebe Dynevor is widely known for her role in TV period drama Bridgerton, and has since had roles in films including Inheritance in 2025 and her feature film debut in the 2021 film The Colour Room about Stoke-on-Trent ceramic artist Clarice Cliff.

Now, Phoebe, from Manchester in the UK, has landed a role in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan movie, starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, and called Remain.

A trailer shows a couple living an apparently idyllic life playing board games together in a large, well-furnished house, before the trailer cuts to a darker tone, with Phoebe's character behaving strangely in the bathroom in front of a scared Gyllenhaal, before disappearing when he turns on the light.

This being an M. Night Shyamalan movie, many people were anticipating a big, rug-pulling twist, and people were excited, with one writing on social media: "The atmosphere in this trailer is absolutely insane! Jake Gyllenhaal is the undisputed king of psychological thrillers, and Phoebe Dynevor looks incredibly ethereal and haunting.

"Shyamalan looks like he's delivering pure, high-stress cinema here."

After starting acting at a young age, including a regular part in Waterloo Road as a teenager, Phoebe had her breakout role in Bridgerton.

But fans of Coronation Street may also recognise her surname, and that's because her mum Sally Dynevor has been a star in the long-running soap opera since 1986, playing Sally Webster.

Speaking to the Mirror previously, Sally revealed that her daughter had long wanted to follow in her footsteps as an actor.

“Phoebe decided she wanted to act when she was 12 or 13," she said.

But while some parents might be reticent about their children following them into a profession, knowing the downsides as well as the good things, Sally had no doubt about encouraging her daughter's ambition, even if acting can be a difficult job to do.

“My mother-in-law Shirley said to me, ‘You mustn’t dissuade her. Actors are the most wonderful people in the world and the most fun’," she said.

“I thought, ‘She’s absolutely right’. And even if it’s very difficult, she’s going to have a great time."

She added: “I was probably more nervous watching her in something than I’d ever been for me, but she’s doing OK."

As for advice that she can pass on to her daughter, she said: “I am always telling her if you want to survive in this business, you have to have ­discipline and set aside days and nights to ­learn lines.”

And it seems to be paying off, with Phoebe, 31, having already built up a growing list of feature film appearance since her 2021 debut, making the move from TV into film acting.

In 2026 she starred in survival thriller Thrash, playing a pregnant woman trapped by a hurricane.

Now, she has several upcoming projects, including Remain with Jake Gyllenhaal, as well as upcoming horror mystery Pendulum, and romantic comedy Beach Read, with all three of these scheduled for US release in 2027.
