Sometimes actors have to go to some serious lengths to best portray their characters, and Shia LaBeouf was no exception.
Although he had to put up with Beans on the set of Even Stevens, and some pretty horrible conditions on the set of Holes, they didn't require him to take any drugs.
LaBeouf is going through a pretty tough time of things right now too, as he's going through a split from his wife of 10 years Mia Goth, having also been arrested earlier this year following an alcohol binge which saw him terrorise the people of New Orleans.
For one of his 2013 releases, the 40-year-old actor decided to take acid to really get to know what things were like for his character, although the dedication didn't really pay off when you consider it's rated just 25 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not wanting to be out-magicked by the man best known for playing Ron Weasley, LaBeouf took the bizarre approach of taking LSD in front of co-star Rupert Grint, who certainly wasn't used to seeing anything like that during his time filming Harry Potter.
While shooting 2013 action romance film Charlie Countryman together, Grint was pretty shocked to see his fellow former child actor go a little crazy after taking LSD for real.

He told The Guardian back in 2014: "He smashed the place up, got naked and kept seeing this owl. If anything will make you not do drugs, it's watching that."
LaBeouf also later admitted that it wasn't one of his best ideas, especially when it led to him choking director Frederik Bond.
He told Interview Magazine that year: "Right after that acid trip, I was choking him—my trainer had to pull me off him. He almost walked off that movie. He wanted to break for lunch while I was tripping on drugs. I was like, 'We can’t break for lunch, I’m on f*****g drugs.'
"And that turned into madness. That’s what I mean by a lack of control caused by irrational commitment. I wasn’t evolved enough as a human being to be able to control my commitment. And because I was so scared of being a bad actor, there was no limit to the commitment.

"They put people in a fucking home for doing what we do for a living. You have to abandon yourself to delusion. If you’re going to work in that way, you have to work with people who can referee you. You need a lion tamer who you respect. I live in a conditional liberty as an actor. I’m not ever really free if I’m doing it right. I’m not good with liberty."
Other actors such as Christian Bale and Tom Cruise have undergone some pretty wild transformations for their roles but you'd imagine that no intimacy coordinator or whatever they're called these days would allow an actor to take drugs on set.
