Jon Bernthal's return as The Punisher has been shown for the first time in a trailer for Daredevil: Born Again.

A first look trailer was revealed at D23, Disney's expo in which they lay out their entertainment slate for the next two years.

Jon Bernthal spoke on stage about his return to the character in the MCU.

The trailer was described to be 'very violent' by attendees, with the show being a reboot of Netflix's R-Rated show.

It has not yet been confirmed to be R-Rated as well, but the trailer points in this direction.

Bernthal is joined in returning by Charlie Cox as Daredevil, who has previously appeared in the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Disney+ shows Echo and She-Hulk. In addition to this, Vincent D'Onofrio will be returning as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.

D'Onofrio made his MCU debut in Hawkeye, whilst also playing a major role in Echo. The trailer hinted that, though Daredevil and Fisk are mortal enemies, they will team up in the show to deal with a larger threat of some kind.

Though focus is primarily on Cox and D'Onofrio returning, many fans are most excited for the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher.

Bernthal first appeared as the character in Daredevil season 2's first half, and was immediately captivating.

Following on from this, the reaction was such that Bernthal returned to play the character in his own show. This ran for two seasons on Netflix.

Bernthal said it was 'an honour' to return as the character.

Previously, in an interview with Collider prior to his return, Bernthal said: "I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has. In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe.

"I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank.

"I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right"

In addition to Bernthal returning as The Punisher, the trailer has revealed a cast of new characters for the show.

Kamala Khan's father Yusuf (Mohan Kapur), from Ms Marvel and The Marvels will join the cast, and comic characters White Tiger and the villainous 'Muse' will also appear in season one.

Kevin Feige confirmed that there will not only be one season of Daredevil: Born Again, but that a second season was planned - and filming is set to begin soon.
