Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is already planning his next big movie project, and this time he’s turning his attention to a video game adaptation.

While he hasn’t revealed which game is set to get the big screen treatment, the Hollywood heavyweight did say it’s the ‘biggest’ and ‘most badass’ of them all.

Speaking to Men’s Journal, Johnson said: “I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year.

“We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen - one that I’ve played for years.

“I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends - but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

Exciting stuff, even more so that the announcement will be made in the months to come.

Until then, the internet has been busy speculating on what game The Rock’s adaptation could be based.

IGN's Community Lead Jada Griffin is certainly excited at the prospect, proposing a potential Double Dragon film with The Rock and Kevin Hart.

Twitch got in on the action too, posting a picture of Johnson photoshopped as a Minecraft character on Twitter.

Meanwhile, another Twitter user suggested Rock Band while pointing out: "It's literally in the name…”

Fortnite, Mario and Gauntlet are just a few of the other titles being thrown around.

All we can do is wait, but for now The Rock is focusing on his entrance into the DC Universe with forthcoming film Black Adam.

It’s an exciting move for the star - as well as portraying the titular superhero, it marks his first proper role in a comic book movie.

In his interview with Men’s Journal, Johnson spoke about the arduous preparation for the movie.

“I started training for Black Adam when I came out of the womb. I believe I was born to play this character,” he said.

“But in all honesty, this project has been with me for ten years now. The process began when we started to stand the material up and really developed it into what it is present day.

“Once the start date was agreed on by our Seven Bucks production company, the rest of my team, Warner Bros. Studio, and DC Comics, I started to build an exhaustive training program with my coach Dave Rienzi.

“I wanted to come into this in the best shape of my career.”

Discussing his character, he added: “One of the things that drew me to Black Adam is his origin.

“He started out enslaved. Any time you have a character, or any human being, who has wrongfully been held down by others, it means so much more when they begin to rise up.

“Black Adam rises with a big f***ing chip on his shoulder - and an edge.”

Johnson continued: “I believe this character is going to bring a unique edge to the superhero genre. We’re gonna be turning preconceived notions on their ear.”

Black Adam is due for release on 29 July 2022.
