Elton John left Glastonbury stage and was 'back home less than 40 minutes' after headline set

The singer made a quick exit after closing the night with 'Rocket Man'

Elton John apparently made it from the muddy fields of Glastonbury to the luxury of his own home in less than 40 minutes yesterday (25 June) after putting on an epic show at the festival.

The 'Crocodile Rock' singer stunned the crowd of festival-goers with his headline set on Sunday, where he waltzed out in a golden suit before launching into some of his most iconic songs.

Elton led the crowd through renditions of 'Bennie and the Jets', 'Tiny Dancer', 'The B*tch is Back' and 'Your Song' before bringing the night to a close with his hit track 'Rocket Man'.

Thanking the incredible crowd, Elton said: "You make me feel so happy. I want to thank you for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you have shown me.

"It’s be an immense journey. I have had the best time, I will never forget you. You are in my head, my heart, and my soul.

"You have been amazing, an incredible crowd tonight. Thank you so much Glastonbury, thank you so much England. I wish you so much health and happiness."

The crowd was left cheering and clapping as Elton made his way from the stage, and he was practically on his way home before members of the crowd could say, 'pint?'

Scottish journalist Colin Paterson revealed Elton's quick escape from the festival on BBC Breakfast this morning (26 June), saying: "He [Elton] hit the last note of 'Rocket Man', jumped in a golf cart with a giant E on it, drove down where an automobile was waiting for him and was whisked to the red gate where there was a helicopter."

Elton had a couple of homes to choose from in England, being the owner of one property in Old Windsor and another in Holland Park, London, but it's apparently the former that he returned to last night.

Paterson said: "Aviation nerds tracked that helicopter...it took him 39 minutes to get home to Windsor - the queues for the showers at Glastonbury are longer!"

Given the huge scale of Glastonbury, I've no doubt that it might have taken some festival-goers longer to reach their own beds for the night, too.

The helicopter definitely helped, though, as it would have taken approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes if Elton had been driven home - and that's not taking into account any Glastonbury traffic.

Still, the singer deserved to put his feet up after his set, which lasted around two hours and marked what was likely his last-ever performance in the UK.
