Charli XCX hits back after Glastonbury viewers accuse star of 'miming' headline set

The 'Brat' artist has hit back at criticism online through a series of posts

Charli XCX has responded to criticism from viewers after her headline set at Glastonbury.

The '360' artist took to the Other Stage as a headliner on Saturday night (28 June) to perform a number of her biggest hits after an iconic performance from UK Grime artist Skepta.

Charli XCX, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, caused waves in the music scene last year with her album 'Brat', garnering eight Grammy award nominations and three wins, Best Dance Pop Recording for 'Von Dutch', Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Recording Package.

But while she has been lauded over the past year or so, the Brit was met with criticism after her show at the weekend.

People took to social media to accuse the artist of lip syncing during her set, prompting a post from the 32-year-old.

The Brit-winner came dressed for the occasion in an all-leather ensemble with thigh-high boots and her iconic pair of sunglasses.

Starting out with tunes 'you ready' before getting into '365' and '360', the artist managed to perform 17 songs on stage before pulling her set to a close before midnight.

The artist, who wasn't the only headliner to receive criticism on social media, performed in front of a familiar 'brat' green backdrop, but people were not happy.

Charli XCX was accused of a heavy use of autotune as well as for 'miming' many of her tracks.

One user took to X, saying: "Imagine going to Glastonbury to watch Charli XCX headline and she autotunes and mimes through the whole damn set!"

Another added: "Charli XCX is god awful, looks like she's miming half of it as well, just poor." while a third critiqued: "All for Charli XCX's energy, but miming at Glastonbury is a sin."

Well, it seems like the message got through to the artist on Sunday night, as she posted a response on the social media platform.

"Like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a 'real artist' is like, the most boring take ever," she claimed.

The artist added: "Yawn sorry just fell asleep xx"

Charli XCX followed that up, saying: "But to be honest… i enjoy the discourse. imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable."

But while many called her out, several others also praised her performance, with a different user simply writing: "Dude… Charli XCX was f**king class."

Another passionate fan posted: "Boomers talking shit about Charli XCX's glastonbury performance. Like she didn’t just give us an amazing performance and visuals she literally burned down brat. Charli XCX you will always be famous."
