If you found sitting in a darkened room this weekend instead of roasting yourself in a beer garden it was probably down to one of two reasons.

A) The first glimpse of sunshine on Friday put you into full Bank Holiday mode a little too early and you overdid it on the post-work pints. Or B) You finally managed to get yourself to a cinema and watch Avengers: Infinity War.

If it was the latter then fair play to you. You managed to catch one of the biggest movies of the year. However, if you are anything like the rest of us then you no doubt left the cinema with a few questions rattling around in your head.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

First and foremost, 'are all of those characters actually gone?'.

Well, according to a statement made by co-director Joe Russo, perhaps not. It could actually be that some of our heroes are trapped inside the Soul Stone.

Speaking to a crowd at the Iowa City High School, Russo reportedly confirmed that Gamora is inside the Soul Stone. His comments back up one theory that others could could be trapped inside the stone, which serves a gateway to the pocket universe Soul World.

In a transcript posted to Reddit, Russo says that the scene in which Thanos and Gamora are reunited actually takes place inside of the stone.

"Yeah it's - it's implied it's the Soul Stone," Russo said, in response to a question about Gamora's final appearance in the film.

"It's all orange around, then he's inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers- he has this out of body experience with Thanos. When he goes inside the Soul Stone he has this kind of conversation with the younger version of his Gamora."

A student then posed a question about whether Gamora is actually alive within the stone.

"She is in fact, yes...it was an attempt an attempt on our part - because we don't like two dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains, every villain is a hero in their own story. And as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is, he's a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally.

"He does care for things and it is complicated for him to execute his plan and it cost him something. He said at the end: "It cost him everything, and that it was the only thing he loved which was Gamora which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster."

For fans, this is key information about what could be set to take place in Avengers 4. But for now, we'll leave that up to your imagination.
