The final days of Beth Chapman, the wife of Dog the Bounty Hunter, will be aired on television as part of a new show entitled Dog's Most Wanted.

Chapman died aged 51 on Wednesday after a battle with throat and lung cancer.

The couple, who have starred alongside one another on TV for 15 years, believe that it wouldn't be fair to deprive their fans of the real story.

As part of the show, the cameras follow Beth as she endures a 13-hour-long surgery in an attempt to save her life.

Before her death, Chapman spoke to an American TV channel about her decision to film such a traumatic and personal time.

She said: "We have been on TV for almost 15 years now and we've shared almost everything, the death of my father, the death of our daughter, his [Dog's] arrest in Mexico, the subsequent extradition by the American government.

"We have just really shared everything and I think that it's a mistake to try and hide things from your fans.

"Otherwise it's going to unfold on the tabloid cover and not in the way that you want to.

"So for us it was about controlling the message and putting our story out there the way it's meant to be put out there."

In a promotional video for the show, which will air on US cable channel WGN, Dog (who is actually called Duane Chapman) says: "My wife, the love of my life is fighting for her life, and instead of being at home helping her, I'm out here looking for you.

"So I'm warning you, in advance, may God have mercy on you when I catch you... because I won't."

Dog and his family shot to prominence back in the early 2000s on the show Dog the Bounty Hunter. The show followed the... let's say, 'eccentric' family and their co-workers in their attempts to catch people who renege on bail conditions.

Invariably, Dog would get his man and impart some sage wisdom to them before sending them on their way back to the courthouse.

Their first show ceased in 2012, but they soon returned with a new show called Dog and Beth: On The Hunt.

Dog announced his wife's death on Twitter on Wednesday morning. He wrote: "It's 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side."
