We live in an age where the small screen has arguably never been bigger - we don't mean literally, of course, but in the sense that TV shows these days now get huge budgets and even huger concepts, rivalling their feature-length counterparts.

But there was a time before all that - before the days of Netflix, Amazon Prime and binge-watching series that had been created purely for your immediate consumption. Yup, back in the day, we used to sit in front of the box each week to tune into our favourite show, before waiting seven days until the next episode. Imagine.

This was when the humble sitcom reigned supreme, including one particular American series that soon became one of the most iconic TV shows of its time.

Obviously we're talking about Friends, David Crane and Marta Kauffman's classic sitcom starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, which originally aired on NBC but has since enjoyed decades of reruns on various other channels across the globe.

The show made its debut on 22 September 1994 (yup, that's exactly 24 years ago), and ran until 6 May 2004.

During that decade, it told the story of a group of pals living in New York City, with Ross, Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey all guiding us through the ups and downs of relationships, careers, babies, big city life and, above all else, friendship.

Over the course of those 10 seasons, we were treated to countless memorable moments. I mean, many of us can still quote entire scenes.

Let's not forget this one, which was so hilarious that it single-handledly changed the connotations of the word 'pivot' forever.

PIVAAAAAAAAAAAAT!

Then could there be any better moment between Joey and Chandler than this one?

And then there was that heartbreaking finale, which had us all weeping - yep, even you tough LADs out there. It was a bittersweet moment, which saw us on the one hand absolutely broken to usher in the end of an era, but on the other seriously chuffed that the characters would be moving on to bigger and brighter things.

It feels like just yesterday that we were waving goodbye to our old friend, but, that said, we're all still ready for that long-rumoured reunion... What about next year, to mark the big 2-5? C'mon guys, give the people what they want.
