Exiled at the end of series six, after being threatened with execution, she was last seen riding south from Winterfell.

Now as series seven of Game Of Thrones picks up pace, it looks like there is a return in line for Melisandre.

In the 'weeks ahead' trailer, released by HBO at the San Diego Comic-Con, we see a glance of Melisandre whose return could have significance.

The clip sees Jon Snow considering an alliance with Daenerys, Euron Greyjoy parading through the streets of King's Landing, and Melisandre visiting Daenerys in Dragonstone to suggest she has 'a role to play... as does another'.

Fans took to social media to explain their delight at the return of Melisandre, and the drama that it is likely to be brought along with it.

HBO, the makers of Game of Thrones, are dropping hints left, right and centre about what may be coming up over the next seven episodes.

Fans believed that in the first episode of the seventh series, there was a massive clue about Cersei Lannister's fate - and it wasn't good for the 'Mad Queen'.

Whether those fan theories are right, we will have to wait. We know that the second episode will be called 'Stormborn' with the description: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

It'll be second of two 59-minute episodes to open series seven, before it ends with two tasty 71-minute and 81-minute episodes to round of the penultimate season.

Episode one caught the attention of many for the appearance of Ed Sheeran whose singing pricked a few ears, and opinions.

Sheeran defended his appearance, and wrote on Instagram: "Last I'll say on this. I came off Twitter coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my Game Of Thrones cameo, because I am in Game Of Thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It's clearly fuckin' awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want."

So, it's unlikely Ed may be coming back, but as to when Melisandre will return, well, we'll just have to keep watching...
