Idris Elba Sends Fans Into A Frenzy With Response To ‘James Bond’ Rumours

Idris Elba just responded to recent rumours about him being the next James Bond with a cryptic tweet.

At this point, it seems obvious that the next in line to play James Bond after Daniel Craig steps down should be Idris Elba. He's a total badass, an incredible actor, and he looks like a boss in a suit - he ticks all the boxes.

These rumours were taken up a notch this week when director Antoine Fuqua announced the details of a convo with James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, in which she reportedly said 'it is time' for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role - and that Idris is the top choice.

This of course sent the Internet into meltdown, with Idris fans (of which there are a lot) taking to social media to express their joy and excitement at the thought of the actor being the next 007.

Adding fuel to the fire, just hours ago Idris sent out a cryptic tweet with which he's doing one of two things: either inadvertently confirming he will be the next James Bond or he's simply adding to the hype train that shows no signs of slowing:

The tweet states: 'My name's Elba, Idris Elba' - obviously a direct reference to the movie franchise's most famous line.

As the Telegraph reports, the upcoming Bond 25 is likely to be Craig's last run in the titular role, after the actor said he wanted to 'go out on a high note', and rumours about Idris replacing him have been circulating since 2014.

Idris being Idris, he's remained pretty modest and quiet about the whole thing, even suggesting that he is too old to play the iconic British spy.

However, the tweet suggests he might just be coming round to the idea with this positive response to the fresh batch of rumours.

It's also garnered an excited response from the Twitter community, with actor Sanjeev Bhaskar joking: "Yeah I got your number mate."

Meanwhile, one fan wrote, "YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! IT'S HAPPENING," and another Twitter user said what we were all thinking: "Ticket sales for women 18-74 for James Bond movies just maxed out!"

While we shouldn't start ordering our Idris/Bond merchandise just yet, it at least indicates the actor might be open to discussions regarding the role.

We don't want to jump the gun on this, but we will be keeping our fingers, eyes, and toes crossed that this dream is one day made a reality. Because if there's one thing to take from all this, it's that Idris would make the most badass Bond there ever was.Featured Image Credit: PA
