Whatever you think the phrase 'Netflix and chill' means, the literal interpretation become a standard activity ever since we managed to get internet that wouldn't buffer every ten seconds. It's incredibly easy to get absolutely lost in a show and wind up watching 10 episodes back to back, before realising you haven't moved in hours.
That probably has something to do with the service's option to automatically play the next episode, and even skip the intro. While mum and dad might not think it's a good use of your time, they wouldn't know what it's like to be at the table with your friends and have no clue what the fuck Stranger Things is, much less the Upside Down'.

But there are Aussies out there who don't just watch a few episodes and call it a day when the couch has a permanent imprint of their body. Netflix has come up with its own term to refer to the top dogs who stream at ridiculous rates: 'binge racers'.
That is reserved for the people who manage to watch a new season of a show within 24 hours of its release. There were 8.4 million people around the world who fulfil that criteria. Australia ranks eighth in the world for the most amount of binge racers, with Canada, America and Denmark taking out the top three places.
A user in France has managed to get through 30 shows already this year. Yes, you read that right, three-zero. One Aussie is doing their bit to get into the record books, watching 13 seasons this year.

Never in a million years would I think that Gilmore Girls would top the list, and yet here we are.

Netflix Original Series vice president Brian Wright told the Daily Mail: "There's a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story - whether it's the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favourite TV show."
The viewing habits in Australia are also pretty interesting, with people in the ACT being the most active binge races, followed by Queensland and then Tasmania. South Australia came in fourth, Victoria was fifth, then West Australians and New South Wales and Northern Territory bringing up the rear.
There's no shame whatsoever in the amount of time we spend watching Netflix - some shows can help us in ways we don't fully recognise. Just as long as you don't sack off your friends, relationship, job or family to keep binging then you're in the clear.
