The mullet has gone, guys

While the young heroes of Stranger Things are regularly heaped with praise for the part they've played in the much-hyped Netflix hit, over the seasons we've seen some other unlikely heroes emerge.

Arguably leading the pack is Joe Keery, whose hilarious and loveable jock Steve Harrington has provided many laughs along the way - not least because of his fabulous, all-out ridiculous 80s mullet.

The only thing is, Keery has decided the iconic mullet is no longer for him, meaning he's chopped it all off and traded it in for an edgy, choppy bowl cut.

Keery revealed the strong new look at a Chanel dinner the other day, where he rocked up looking pretty much unrecognisable.

It seems viewers aren't convinced by the new look, however, with many taking to social media to express their heartbreak and mourn the loss of a fan-favourite mullet.

One person tweeted: "Oh hell no who did this to Joe Keery I want them in jail right now."

Another person wrote: "In memory of Joe Keery he is not dead but his beautiful hair is."

Meanwhile, a third disappointed fan lamented: "I could've gone my whole life without Joe Keery's bangs. I would've lived a fun and fulfilled life and now my nights will be haunted by the memory of those photos."

But some fans decided to stick up for him, with one tweeting: "If he likes it then that's all that matters."

(Mum, is that you?)

Someone else also defended him, saying: "JOE KEERY IS HANDSOME NO MATTER WHAT HIS HAIR LOOKS LIKE."

Keery's hair has been integral to the development of his character, who we've come to love more and more as his bouffant grows.

In fact, his hair has a cult following of its own.

Hell, it even became a Twitter moment a couple of years back - only for it to happen again yesterday following news of his new barnet.

Speaking to Esquire back in 2017, Keery revealed the secrets behind his unique look, and how he managed to get his hair to look how it did in the show.

He said: "Well, the cut's good. And if the haircut is good, that's half the job.

"It's just a blow-dry with stuff in the back. Sarah Hindsgaul, who is the head of hair, is totally killer. She's the best. She does the hair for the entire cast, and you can see how accurate and subtle her work is. It's not, like, in-your-face '80s hair; it's really nice and tasteful. She's the hair guru."

He also mentioned the Farrah Fawcett Fabergé Organics hairspray his character swears by, adding: "I think they've actually discontinued [Fabergé Organics]. You can probably find it on eBay or something. Prices will probably jack up in the next week or two. Or maybe Netflix will reissue it."
