Marvel Rumoured To Be Developing ‘Ironheart’ – The Female Fronted ‘Iron Man’

Fans of female-led superhero flicks will be pleased to know of some fresh rumours circulating online right now that claim a gender-swapped Iron Man movie is on the cards.

Titled Ironheart, the film is apparently already in development. The Hashtag Show reported that the script penned by Jada Rodriguez appeared on The Black List - a list of Hollywood's most popular unmade screenplays - indicating this could be a sign Marvel has already given the project the green light.

Of course, this is all just speculation. However, it would certainly fit in with the current trend for Marvel and DC finally giving lead roles to female characters in their respective cinematic universes.

The talk of an all-female Marvel movie has been on the cards for quite some time now, rumours that have been further fueled by the development of a Captain Marvel movie, starring Brie Larson as the titular character.

As you well know, DC Comics is in on this female-led superhero revolution too with the development of director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 - the sequel to the 2017 blockbuster hit starring Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess.

Iron Heart would certainly make for a solid new character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to explore given the worldwide success of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.

For those of you not familiar with the character, Ironheart a.k.a. Riri Williams is a successor to Tony Stark in the world of Marvel Comics. Created by comic writer and artist Brian Michael Bendis, Williams is depicted as a young teenage genius who reverse-engineers the Iron Man armour technology by herself - which she does while casually studying at MIT.

In other words, she's a complete badass prodigy who evidently would have no issue matching the smarts and power of old starky. She was first introduced in Marvel's 2016 comic Invincible Iron Man #7 before going on to take the title of Ironheart.

Exciting stuff, but does it mean the MCU is set to add Ironheart to its slate anytime soon? Unlikely, as Marvel has yet to comment and the whole thing is currently based on rumours and hearsay.

That said, if the screenplay turns out to be legit then we might just get to see the better half of Iron Man's character cropping up on the big screen in the near future to save the day and kick some butts while she's at. Get ready for a different breed of heavy metal hero(ine)!
