Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, has confirmed that The Simpsons Movie 2 is going to happen.

Whilst he didn't say exactly when it will happen, he did say that now that Disney have snapped up 20th Century Fox - which, incidentally, was predicted by The Simpsons years ago - they're probably going to want to get some bang from their buck.

Obviously, when you buy one of the most successful shows of all time, you're going to want to use that popularity for all it is worth.

That's completely overlooking the fact that many of The Simpsons' die hard fans packed the whole thing in years ago.

20th Century Fox

Speaking at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, Groening said: "No doubt there will be another Simpsons movie one of these days. I think Disney wants something for its money."

Well, there you have it. We'll have to wait a bit longer to get anything more concrete than that, though.

In fact, Groening also spoke about how the first movie didn't exactly help the popularity of the world's longest running animated show - now in a record extending 31st season - but almost killed it off entirely.

Groening continued: "This is a true answer. The first Simpsons Movie almost killed us.

"We didn't have a B-team waiting to do The Simpsons Movie, so the same people who wrote, animated, voiced and did the music for The Simpsons TV show also did the movie.

"That was in 2007. We're almost recovered, almost."

20th Century Fox

Wow, that is an honest answer to say the least.

That's not the only big news that we've had coming out of Comic-Con this year. On top of the announcement of what's coming in phase four the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we've also had it announced that Natalie Portman is to play Lady Thor in the fourth instalment of the Thor series.

Oh, and there's also the small matter of the trailer for Star Trek: Picard being released to the public. Trekkies and Patrick Stewart fans across the world will be keeping a close eye on that one.

As well as all of that, we've also heard that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali will don the famous long leather coat for the Marvel remake of Blade.

Ali will attempt to follow on from the success of the original Wesley Snipes films starring the half human, half vampire character.

Hopefully, all of these offerings will live up to expectations.
