Netflix Drops New 'The Punisher' Season 2 Clip And Release Date
Jon Bernthal is set to reprise the role of vigilante Frank Castle in the hit Netflix/Marvel show, which hits the streaming service on 18 January.
And while the first season focused on the death of Castle's family and the conspiracy behind it, the new season will see him fully adopt his Punisher persona - as Showrunner Steve Lightfoot explained to Collider.
He said: "If you ask, 'What is the theme of season two? It's about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher."
The official synopsis for The Punisher season two adds: "Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham).
"As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as 'The Punisher'."

Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer. The cast also features Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani), Jason R. Moore (Curtis), Josh Stewart (John Pilgrim), and Floriana Lima (Dr. Krista Dumont)."
The trailer for season two was released a few days back, which wasn't giving much away - but sure looked like things are going to be intense.
Producer Joe Quesada is also excited for us to see the new season, which is a good sign if ever there was one.
"It is just crazy stuff. Crazy stuff. It's going to be exactly what fans want," he told ComicBook.com.
"Last year, this time, I was going around telling people like you [Punisher is] the best show we may have done.
"I think there were three fans on the floor, they were like, 'Come on, man.' I'm like, 'If you don't think it's the best show that we've done and if [Jon] Bernthal is not Frank Castle, I will pay your Netflix subscription for a year.' Never collected, thank God."
Excited is an understatement...
