The World's First Keanu Reeves Film Festival Is Coming To Glasgow

Most excellent!

A film exhibition company in Scotland is to stage the first ever Keanu Reeves film festival. Well, the first as far as we know.

That's right, in the last weekend of April 2019 there will be a celebration of all 54 beautiful years in the life of everyone's favourite deadpan Hollywood star.

The mastermind behind this piece of genius is Matchbox Cineclub, a film exhibitor based in Glasgow.

Matchbox Cineclub also brought us Cage-A-Rama, which was a similar event celebrating the works of Nicolas Cage.

Yep, Keanu Reeves.

KeanuCon, as it is becoming known, will see various Keanu flicks shown over the weekend, as well as live performances from bands and an event called 'Challenge Death' which as far as we can tell is a pub quiz hosted by the grim reaper.

The whole two-day event will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and will see some of Keanu's older works shown, as well as stone-cold classics such as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey shown back to back.

Obviously we'll have big-hitters like The Matrix, John Wick and Speed. There will be some deeper cuts and slightly more obscure films from the Reeves archive for those who are interested, too.

The only weird thing is that Point Break isn't going to be shown. Oh well, you could check out weirder choices like Man of Tai Chi or Permanent Record instead, right?

Interestingly enough, also listed on the bill is a performance by the band 'Wyld Stallyns'.

As every Bill and Ted fan knows, that is the fictional band from the films, made up of Keanu Reeves and his co-star in those films, Alex Winter.

Barring them having actually convinced Reeves and Winter to travel over the Atlantic Ocean to visit Glasgow - why wouldn't they? Glasgow is great! - you'd have to imagine that will be a tribute act performing popular songs either from, or similar to, the ones in the movies.

It might be that it will be a band playing hits from Keanu's career. Think Rage Against The Machine's 'Wake Up', perhaps?

You'll just have to show up to find out.

Incidentally, if you want to do that, you can purchase tickets to KeanuCon online from the Matchbox Cineclub website, which contains a full schedule of what to expect from the whole festival.

KeanuCon will be at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow on 27 and 28 April.

Until then, be excellent to each other.
