With news that the next James Bond announcement could be just around the corner, fans have been discussing the rumoured 007.

It looks like the long awaited successor to Daniel Craig may have been selected, three years after the last Bond film, No Time to Die.

According to reports from The Sun, Aaron Taylor-Johnson 'has been formally offered the opportunity to play James Bond'.

The 33-year-old actor has not been officially announced - nor is it known if he has accepted a potential offer - but he would be the eighth actor to play the legendary spy since the franchise began.

You might recognise Taylor-Johnson from the likes of Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla, and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

A source said: "Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.

"As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement."

Some 007 fans are pretty divided on the idea of Taylor-Johnson playing the iconic character.

Many people think he'd be a great fit, with one writing on X: "Looks very bond like…think he’ll do well, bit more like a classic James Bond compared to previous gangster like Daniel Craig."

While another praised the actor's rise: "This is crazy. From Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging to Bond. Aaron Taylor-Johnson may you always be famous."

And another added: "Aaron Taylor-Johnson as James Bond? I'd see it," as a fourth wrote: "Personally think Aaron Taylor-Johnson will make a great James Bond."

Others were less enthusiastic however, with some fans making the same comment about the actor, claiming that Johnson-Taylor doesn't have the 'classic Bond voice'.

"I can go for ATJ as Bond, Ives from Tenet showed me the way. He doesn’t have your typical Bond 'voice' but I’m with it," said one.

And another added: "Aaron Taylor-Johnson can’t be the next Bond. Great face but wrong voice."

While a third added: "Aaron is nice and all but can you imagine him saying 'my name is bond, james bond' with that voice??"

And a fourth commented: "ATJ as bond is a solid choice. Only thing I’m concerned about is his voice is sometimes quite high pitched."

Although Taylor-Johnson is not yet confirmed, it was reported in 2023 that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was apparently impressed when he was said to have done a screen test for the role.

Meanwhile, it was also reported by the Mail last year that Christopher Nolan, director of Oppenheimer, would direct the next film in the franchise.

Nolan has previously worked with Taylor-Johnson on the 2020 science fiction action thriller, Tenet.
