British film fans are furious after realising when Xmas Day releases will actually release in the UK

Here's when the likes of Nosferatu and Babygirl will be out in the UK

When it comes to being a die-hard film fan in the UK, it can be properly tough sometimes.

While this may be the most first world of first world problems, there is nothing more annoying than rushing in excitement to find out when you’re going to be able to see a new film, only to find out it comes out weeks, or even months, later in the UK vs the United States.

This is an experience that many film fans will come across today, as we gaze longingly on X at American movie buffs able to go and watch some incredible new releases today.

Yes, many were unlikely to go see them on Christmas day itself, but a true film fan will tell you that the dead zone between December 27th and the New Year is the ‘perfect’ time for film watching.

If you were hoping to see Nosferatu or Babygirl during that period in the UK though, tough sh*t, cause you’ll be waiting till next year.

Babygirl, which stars Nicole Kidman as a high powered CEO who engages in a BDSM fuelled affair with a young intern played by Harris Dickinson, comes out on Christmas Day in the US, and won’t release until January 10th in the UK.

Nosferatu, the latest Robert Eggers film is based on one of the original horrors, the 1922 movie of the same name, and also releases on Christmas Day in the US.

In the UK though, you’ll be waiting till New Year’s Day to watch.

If you thought that British film fans would take this lying down, you really don’t understand our penchant for complaining.

Letterboxd posted about even more films ‘coming in December’, with many of the Oscar contenders such as The Brutalist, Maria, and Timothee Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.

Unfortunately though, Babygirl and Nosferatu are not the only examples of this.

The caption said ‘Which four films on this list are you most looking forward to in December’, with one film fan quoting it saying: “Unless you're in the UK Nosferatu – January, Y2K - No release date, September 5 – January, Nickel Boys – January, Babygirl – January, The End - No release date, Maria – January, The Brutalist - January, A Complete Unknown – January.”

When one fan pointed out that it used to be ages before films made it across from America, they responded saying: “While I take the point, it's a different time. Every shot of Nosferatu will be online before we get a chance to see it.

“Spoilers for all those films abound.”

Another fan pointed out this isn’t a specific problem to the UK, but ‘all of Europe’.

A third said: “Having Babygirl come out after Christmas is ridiculous. The trailer literally says ‘this Christmas get exactly what you want’”.

If you were hoping to watch any of the above over Christmas, tough luck British fans, here's hoping you can avoid spoilers.
