Dakota Johnson awkwardly paused her interview to ask an actor if she felt comfortable during the sex scene she directed.

The Fifty Shades star - who has appeared in her fair share of intimate scenes - was out promoting her new directing effort Loser Baby on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast last week.

The film follows a group of friends from LA who hit a sexless plateau.

Talia Bernstein plays Lizzie, who is particular struggling in her relationship as she complains to her best mate, played by Blake Lee.

Though things quickly change at the birthday party of another friend (Ashley Madekwe).

During the interview, Horowitz starts to ask her Johnson about her 'kinky' opening scene.

He said: "You can tell a lot about a director's approach by the first shots of any of their films.

"And it will surprise no one, like Kurosawa, like Frank Capra, this one starts with a sex scene with a strap on... so.

"There's no question there it's just an observation."

"Just to be named in a group of legends is, you know, that's what I strive to be," the 34-year-old replied.

"I feel like it's no surprise that the opening scene of my short film has a giant pink strap on in it."

While Horowitz interjects: "No, I was not surprised. I was like, I would have been disappointed if it wasn't there."

Johnson then spoke about the size of the strap on: "It's also not giant, it's like a pretty regular strap on," joking: "I don't know see, yeah, I'm a virgin."

The interviewer then asked: "So did you kind of apply the good and the bad that you've experienced in your own career to how you directed your friends in this?"

Johnson replied: "Yes, and so I really did my best to make her feel as comfortable as possible in all of the sexual moments."

The Madame Web star then calls out Bernstein, mid interview, to ask her if she felt 'comfortable' being directed by her, to which she joked: "I guess?"

Further opening up about her role in the film, the Ghosts actor told Deadline: “It was definitely pulled from reality.

“I really wanted to see authentic queer relationships.

“I’m in a long-term relationship at the time that I wrote this, and I was like, ‘I’m not seeing this [elsewhere], I’m not seeing this version of this relationship… I just wanted to explore that there are so many ways to be in a relationship.”
