Interstellar fans have only just realised one disturbing detail in the movie after its re-release on the big screen.

For those who have yet to watch the Christopher Nolan-directed flick, its scientific accuracy, fantastic cast of Hollywood A-listers and captivating plot lines are just some of the things that make it one of the greatest films to come out of cinema.

Although the film, which stars the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Timothée Chalamet, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Michael Caine, among others, came out in 2014, it seems there’s one thing that people are finally piecing together.

It’s the movie's baffling time theory.

10 years on from its original release, Interstellar has now become the highest-grossing film to be re-released in IMAX.

There’s no shock there.

With dedicated fans across the globe who’ve been putting together theories, it appears they’ve finally cracked the main one.

The film's plot follows the life of farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper (McConaughey), who goes on to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers.

In their bid to find a new planet for humans to inhabit after Earth becomes uninhabitable, they check out Miller’s planet.

Here is where there is a 'time dilation'.

This is where time slows down under the influence of a strong gravitational field.

Not only is it influenced by gravity and motion, but it also leads to different experiences of time depending on the circumstances.

Like Einstein's theory of special relativity, it revolves around the idea that the faster an object accelerates, the slower it moves through time.

So, as Miller's planet is near a black hole, it’s experiencing time at a much slower rate compared to Earth.

It’s all thanks to the ocean planet orbiting Gargantua (a black hole with an immense gravitational pull).

For fans, the way that time was able to be counted, was through a strange ticking sound throughout their time on the planet.

Each tick represents one day on Earth.

It really puts into perspective just how long they were on the planet, without even realising it.

For them it was only three hours and 17 minutes, but when they returned to their spacecraft, they found out that 23 years had passed back home on Earth.

After re-watching Interstellar, fans have worked out how much time has passed on Miller’s planet compared to our 10 years since the film was released.

An hour and a half.

These types of details are why the movie remains high on people’s lists.

It was so good that it was nominated for five Oscars and went on to win one for Best Visual Effects in 2015.

Speaking about its appeal Nolan told The Associated Press: “I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point.

“But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and in particular on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
