Keanu Reeves went out of his way to make heartwarming gesture to young fan who wanted his autograph

Keanu Reeves went out of his way to make heartwarming gesture to young fan who wanted his autograph

The young fan now all grown up recalled his 1990s encounter with Keanu Reeves on Twitter.

Keanu Reeves has always been good with his fans, and the moment he went out of his way to make a heartwarming gesture for a young fan is the perfect example.

The John Wick actor, who turns 59 today, loves a bit of interaction with his supporters - something a lot of film stars are the polar opposite on.

From the pub goers in Hertfordshire who were shocked by his presence on a cold February afternoon, to the road trip he made with stranded passengers - it really does show the human side of the actor.

Perhaps one of the most heartwarming moments Reeves has had with a fan though is one involving an autograph back in the 90s.

James Dator, who is now a writer for SBNation, met Reeves while working in a cinema in Sydney in his youth.

In 2019, he recalled the incredible story of how he met the John Wick actor.

Taking to Twitter, Dator penned: "Like any other member of the public Reeves had turned up to see a new movie but Dator was a little star struck and forgot to ask him for an autograph but the story didn't end there.

"Keanu came to the movie theater I worked at in Sydney in 2001. He was working on the Matrix series at the time. It’s a quiet, Wednesday morning — almost nobody is seeing movies.

"I’m working the box office, bored as hell and suddenly this dude walks up in jeans, a leather jacket and a horse riding helmet. A full a**, weird equestrian looking helmet. It takes me a solid 30 seconds to ignore the helmet and realise it’s Keanu Reeves."

Dator went on to say Reeves wanted to buy a ticket for the Johnny Depp film From Hell, and this is when the then 16-year-old was a little starstruck.

"I’m so f**king star struck I do what any sensible 16-year-old does and tell him I’d like to give him my employee discount," Dator continued on Twitter.

"This means he needs to sign my sheet and therefore I have his autograph.

"‘I don’t work here,’ Keanu says. Seemingly confused by my offer. I’m flustered and just charge him the normal price. Kicking myself after for not getting his autograph.

"2 minutes later there’s a knock on the door behind me that leads into the box office. I assume it’s my manager. It’s Keanu."

The fan continued: "I realised you probably wanted my autograph,’ he says. ‘So I signed this.’ He hands me a receipt from the concessions stand that he signed on the back. He then casually throws an ice cream cone in the trash can and sees his movie.

"I realise later that he bought an ice cream cone he didn’t want, just to get receipt paper so he could scribble his autograph for a 16-year-old idiot."

What a lovely touch.
