As the Oscar Nominations today have been revealed for the upcoming Academy Awards, many of us will the same first question.

“Wait, can I even watch any of these?”

The answer to that, thankfully is that there are seven films nominated for an Oscar today that you can watch on streaming in the UK right now (and we don’t mean with some dodgy VPN either).

Among these are two on Netflix films, one of which set a major record, and three different Best Picture nominees which you can watch right now.

What’s it about? The film follows a lawyer in Mexico who is offered a strange job – to help the notorious head of a cartel to leave their life of drugs behind, and get gender affirming surgery to live as a woman.

Who stars in it? Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, and Selena Gomez.

What Oscars was it nominated for? Emilia Perez received the most Oscar-nominations of any non-English film ever with 13. This included Best Picture, Actress in a Leading Role, Actress in a Supporting Role, Directing, and two different nominations for Best Original Song.

The Six Triple Eight

What’s it about? The film follows the true story of an all-black all-female battalion that were the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of colour to serve overseas during the second World War.

Who stars in it? Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Ebony Obsidian, Sarah Jeffery.

What Oscars was it nominated for? Best Original Song for 'The Journey'.

Alien: Romulus

What’s it about? The film follows a crew of colonists who travel to a derelict space station in search of a better life. They instead find a terrifying life form who begins hunting them one by one.

Who stars in it? Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson.

What Oscars was it nominated for? Best Visual Effects.

Elton John: Never Too Late

What’s it about? Elton John. The documentary follows the singer as he prepares for his final concert on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, detailing his 50-year career and struggles.

Who stars in it? Well. Elton John. Also, John Lennon at one point in archive footage. Mostly Elton John.

What Oscars was it nominated for? Best Original Song for 'Never Too Late'.

Dune: Part Two

What’s it about? The film continues the story of Paul Atreides who has been cast out after his family and house were betrayed and murdered. As he looks to take his vengeance against the people who wronged him, whether or not he is the ‘chosen one’ will be tested.

Who stars in it? Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem.

What Oscars was it nominated for? Dune: Part Two was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, Cinematography, and Sound.

What’s it about? The body horror follows an aging celebrity who is fired on her 50th birthday. She then agrees to take a mysterious ‘substance’, which promises to transform her into an enhanced version of herself.

Who stars in it? Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid.

What Oscars was it nominated for? The Substance was surprisingly nominated for five awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director.

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl

What’s it about? Following on from Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers, the movie brings back legendary villain Feathers McGraw. This time he has hijacked Wallace’s newly created garden gnome robots to carry out devious revenge.

Who stars in it? Wallace. Gromit. Obviously. Next question. (Wallace is also voiced brilliantly by Ben Whitehead).

What Oscars was it nominated for? Animated Feature Film.

Several other movies nominated, such as The Apprentice, Anora, and Sing Sing are available to buy on demand.
