People are calling Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen a ‘heavily underrated trilogy’

However, some were quick to disagree pointing to the film's box office numbers.

People are claiming that the Ocean's franchise is one of the most underrated movie trilogies of all time.

A popular Twitter account by the name of Cinema Tweets posted a screenshot from Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twleve and Ocean’s Thirteen with the caption: “Heavily Underrated Trilogy.”

Many agreed with the claim, as one fan penned: “How does nobody talk about how stylish these movies were, and I'm not talking about their dressing sense, but the movies as a whole.”

Another said: “Yeah, I can watch these every time they’re on. And 12 is pure genius.”

While a third commented: “Where all leads are character actors and all character actors are leads. Pure bliss.”

However, many were quick to point out that the trilogy was a huge success, as one person noted: “Since when did The Ocean’s series become underrated? They were all big hits!”

Another said: “Nobody knows what the word underrated means anymore.”

While a third commented: “In which parallel universe is this series underrated?”

Ocean’s Eleven follows Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), who plan a heist of $160 million from casino owner Terry Benedict (Andy García).

It was released in 2001, generating USD $450.7 million (AUD $699.6m) at the box office, becoming the fifth-highest grossing movie of that year.

The film also holds an impressive 83 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not only that, the film spawned two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, which accumulated USD $362.9 million (563.3m) and $311.7 million (576.8m) at the box office, respectively.

Underrated? Surely not.

The popularity of the trilogy even led to a reboot in 2018, Ocean’s Eight, which starred Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s younger sister Debbie Ocean, who recruits an all-female team to plan a sophisticated heist at the Met Gala.

And while there are no plans for a sequel for this new iteration, Looper reported that an Ocean’s 11 prequel titled Ocean’s Nine is currently in the works.

ScreenRant reported that Carrie Solomon is writing the film while Margot Robbie will produce as well as star.

Robbie’s Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling is also reportedly attached to the project, hinting that his film will be another star-studded movie.

No official release date has been announced.
