People are just rediscovering movie scene that ‘traumatised an entire generation’ that still ‘gives people chills’

Millennials widely agree that this scene from a hit 2000s horror film was 'traumatic'

Trust social media to bring back things you chose to forget as a child.

There are certain films or TV shows that left their mark on you as a child, and no matter how hard you shove it down inside, seeing the scene as an adult brings up the same feelings.

A particular scene from a 2002 film, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, has began to do the rounds on TikTok and is bringing back unwelcome memories for a number of users.

The early 2000s was a pretty good year for the The Sixth Sense director - with several of his films, like Unbreakable and The Village, becoming box-office hits.

And Signs was no exception.

Starring Braveheart's Mel Gibson, Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix and Abigail Breslin among others, this film combined the sci-fi and thriller genres to great success, grossing $408.2 million (£322.7 million) at the box office.

You can watch the trailer here:

The film follows priest Graham Hess (Gibson), who discovers a number of crop circles in the fields near his family's new farmhouse, and becomes alarmed when he starts to notice other signs of extra-terrestrial life around the world.

However, there is one scene in particular that sticks out to millennials in particular - seeing as they would have been children at the time of the film's release.

In it, a news report shows footage of a children's birthday party, which Hess' brother, Merill (Phoenix), watches in fear.

It shows the children looking at/for something at first, with nothing there but a sliced birthday cake.

They then move to look outside, and after a few seconds, an alien then walks across the alley, prompting screams from the kids and a shocked reaction from Phoenix's character.

In the viral TikTok, the user, known as Kev, asks if any movie scene 'terrified an entire generation' as much as this one from Signs, which he said had caused him to lose 'weeks' of sleep.

And a few commenters were in dead agreement.

One person commented: "Scared the life out of me, i think it’s because they didn’t over do showing you the aliens."

While another said: "I’ve seen this movie more times than I care to admit and it still gives me chills"

A third put: "It’s Joaquin Phoenix’s reaction that sells it, he looks genuinely afraid."

However, others had another suggestion for the crown of the 'most traumatic' scene of their childhoods.

Someone else nominated the 'log truck scene in Final Destination', adding: "Traumatised an entire generation. Millennials won't drive near a long truck, let alone behind one."

A fifth added: "To this day I can’t drive behind a truck."

We all have our own demons at the end of the day.
