Fans have been left full of questions after Zooey Deschanel has admitted she doesn’t like watching a classic Christmas film.

And that iconic movie is of course Elf, in which she played love interest Jovie.

Deschanel is, of course, well-known for playing Buddy’s love interest in the movie, as well as the likes of Jess in New Girl and Summer in 500 Days of Summer.

But it seems she’s not watched much of her work as an interview with Access Hollywood saw her confess to have only watched her performance in the popular Christmas film once.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Elf, the actor was asked if she’d done a rewatch this year.

But Deschanel said: “I haven’t, I’ve actually only seen it once.”

Unsurprisingly, just like viewers, the interviewer was shocked by this confession and just had to clarify why.

“I just don’t like watching myself that much, so I haven’t really seen it. But I know it’s a good movie.”

The mum-of-two continued: “I’m sure we’ll put it on, but I’m not going to properly sit and watch it.

“My kids have seen it once, but they were a little young so hopefully this is the year they’re excited to watch it.”

And while Deschanel says she doesn’t watch Elf because she doesn’t ‘like watching herself’ fans were quick to comment on TikTok: “Ok what happened on set haha.”

Others put: “I want to know WHY! What does she hate?”

But plenty of people backed her up as they said: “It’s a common thing for actors not to watch themselves.”

As other users agreed: “That’s normal for a lot of actors, doesn’t mean there was an issue.”

While one put: “This actually makes me so sad like… to not be able to enjoy the very art you helped to create.”

However, others were more shocked to realise it is in fact brunette Deschanel who played blonde-haired Jovie in Elf.

One wrote: “How have I never realised that was her?!”

As others added: “I didn’t even know that was her!!” and, “THAT’S HER?!?!?!?! Mind blown.”

With another pointing out: “She looks sooo different when she changes her usual hair style/colour.”

Another even wrote: “My son still doesn’t believe me that it’s her. He argued and says ‘but mom Jess has brown hair’.”

Well, one thing’s for sure anyway, we’ve all watched Elf enough times to make up for Deschanel.
