Someone has made a full scale map of Ireland and posted it to Reddit - here it is in all its glory.

Minecraft is meant to be escapism, right? You enter a world that is entirely different from our own as a way of leaving the drudgery of modern life behind you for a few hours.

Well, if you're interested in a Minecraft world that is a little more like real life, then you're in luck: one Redditor has created a scale map of Ireland within the game. The map is 1:230 scale and is just one part of a wider map of Europe that the user has created.

It is the work of someone with a little too much time on their hands, clearly, but luckily they had time to comment on the post to explain their work. "Hello guys, after making a map of Italy in Minecraft, I upgraded my computer and I was finally able to expand it to cover the whole Europe, even slightly increasing the total scale. This image shows Ireland," they wrote.

Here it is in its full glory.

"To make this fully playable Minecraft map of Europe I used the program QGIS to analyze and adapt the NASA Elevation data, GEBCO Bathymetry data, ESA Land Cover data and WWF HydroSHEDS River data. The layers were then exported and worked on in the program WorldPainter to make the Minecraft world. The whole process took me 1 month, but this was the result of years of researching and mapmaking."

If you know what any of that means, you're a better person than I am. It might as well be written in Japanese - and accompanied, naturally, by a scale map of Japan.

This feat of Minecraft engineering was met by an outpouring of support on Reddit. "This is insane, great work you absolute legend," wrote one poster. Another, presumably a Brexiteer, wrote "Is there any way to segment off specific parts of the map rather than having to download the entirety of Europe?"

Not easily mate, as we're finding out.
