Get back in the attic lads and start digging through your stashes of old games. With any luck you will re-discover your copy of Rockstar's often overlooked Red Dead Redemption.

Get ready to play it again because from Friday it will be backwards compatible. That means your Xbox 360 copy will now work on your Xbox One.

Posting on its website, Rockstar wrote: "Today we're happy to announce that Red Dead Redemption will be released as part of Microsoft's Xbox One Backward Compatibility program this coming Friday, July 8th.

"Starting on Friday, every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition). And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday from the Games Store on Xbox One."

With rumours that a sequel was on the way, hopefully this is the first step on a roll-out campaign. Maybe over the coming months we will find out more details on its existence. If indeed a sequel does exist.

It probably doesn't.
