Twitch streamer explains why $100 for GTA 6 really isn’t a bad deal in 2025

It is looking more and more likely that GTA 6 is going to cost more than ever before, with the $100 price tag rumours gathering pace rather than going away.

But for one Twitch streamer, it's a case of 'get over it' and realise the lay of the land.

Set to be released in the autumn of this year, the latest in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is likely to break a load of records in the gaming world with it going down as the most anticipated video game in living memory.

12 years on from the release of GTA 5, outside of confirming no delays, Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have left fans in the dark since December 2023 when they released the first and only trailer to date.

The silence has left fans chatting among themselves with the conversation naturally turning to how much we'll pay to buy GTA 6 when it finally lands on shelves, likely in October or November.

Worryingly for fans, the $100 (around £80) figure keeps being mentioned. Such a move would be unprecedented in the gaming industry and effectively move the dial upwards on how much gamers can expect to pay.

Michael Pachter, managing director of equity research at Wedbush Securities, this month said price $100 is on the horizon.

It followed in the footsteps of an estimate put forward by Matthew Ball, a venture capitalise and analyst, who suggested this back in 2024.

People have naturally kicked off over the affordability of the game if such a decision is taken by Rockstar or Take-Two. But one Twitch streamer, known as xQc, took to social media to explain why $100 really isn't too much money in the modern gaming world.

xQc, real name Félix Lengyel, is a Canadian video game streamer who has made millions from his videos on the likes of Twitch and rival platform Kick.

Now in a post over on X (formerly known as Twitter), the streamer said $100 was fine in a world where people spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars a year on in-game purchases.

He said: "Gamers will buy five early access, half baked $140 games and sprinkle $300 worth of skins in a year, but when a AAA company goes all out and take their time to make the most anticipated polished product we know they can make, suddenly $100 is too much? Stop talking."

Responses to xQc was mixed, with some saying he is in the privileged position of not having to worry about money due to his reported wealth of $50 million.

"I don’t think you can really have an opinion on this when you’re a multi millionaire," one X user responded saying.

"It’ll be an issue for lower income people who struggle to even afford AAA games at their current price. It only takes one game at a higher price for the industry to follow."

A second wrote: "I'm pretty sure most gamers don't want their hobby to become unaffordable."

And a third said that while $100 for GTA 6 might be worthwhile due to how much they'll get out of it in both enjoyable and hours spent playing the product, it's others that they need to worry about.

"People are not seeing how this open doors for other developers to make their games $100 too," they explained.

Another backed them up, posting: "This is going to set a new precedent and ruin gaming for the next generation. Kids can’t afford this. Gaming is made for kids not adults, prices should be affordable for all kids."

Others straight up agreed with xQc though, saying that with a lifespan of at least a decade expected from GTA 6, is $10 a year really asking for much? They said: "Also people still play GTA 5 a decade later… assuming six keeps the same energy, is 10 dollars a year really a crazy ask?"
