GTA 6 fans are convinced they've just discovered a clue confirming Project ROME, which looks set to revolutionise the future of gaming.
If you're not familiar, Project ROME refers to Rockstar Online Modding Engine, which will reportedly transform GTA 6 into its own 'metaverse' by allowing players to modify the game's environment to create their own experiences.
Back in 2023, Rockstar Games acquired Cfx.re, the development team behind FiveM and RedM, the multiplayer modding platforms for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, which officially opened the doors to modded gaming as part of the wider community of players.
Now, it's believed Project ROME will take this to the next level, and fans think they've just found proof.

Gaming insider @trevortrailor recently shared a screenshot of a job advert for Rockstar calling for a Senior Product Manager for Creator Platform.
"Rockstar Games is seeking a Senior Product Manager to drive key product initiatives across our Creator Platforms, which includes FiveM and RedM, and related products," the ad reads.
Sharing the post, he wrote: "GTA 6 multiplayer role-play mode confirmed!!! Rockstar Games is looking for a senior manager to oversee the evolution of FiveM and RedM."
But what will it actually mean for players?

ROME would allow players to create custom scripts, game modes, host persistent servers and build on the game itself.

It would also allow content creators to craft, share and monetise their gaming experiences, as has already been seen on Roblox.
The modding platform would also support regular map updates, seasonal content, new locations and online events, much like Fortnite.
Pete Basgen, global gaming and esports lead for WPP agency Wavemaker, previously said he believes Rockstar acquired FiveM to lead the way for the GTA metaverse.

"It is my firm belief that is the reason that they purchased FiveM is exactly that — to spin up a metaversal universe of custom-built experiences, and potentially UGC [user generated content] items, with an attached UGC creator economy,” he said.

“It will essentially occupy that adult-enumerated space at the top of the ecosystem; there’s a very natural place there for people that graduate from Roblox and Minecraft."
While we've already seen such developments through Minecraft, Fortnite Creative and Roblox, the sheer scale of GTA and its following could completely revolutionise the future of gaming.
With regular seasonal updates and map extensions, the game has the possibility to never age, which makes that rumoured $100 feel like a bit more of a bargain now.
