One of the gaming world’s most anticipated releases has officially dropped today.

Way back in 1997, Final Fantasy VII – universally acknowledged as the hallmark of the RPG genre – was born. Since its inception, the global franchise has sold over 14.4 million copies, not to mention the numerous spin-offs, films, and merchandise.

Following the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake – the first rendition from the remake project which reimagines PlayStation classics for new consoles – fans have been patiently waiting for the sequel. Now, that wait is over. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth treats fans both old and new to what may be this year’s biggest game release yet. During last year’s The Game Awards, it was even voted the ‘Most Anticipated Game of 2024’.

FFVII Rebirth picks up where Remake left off, following iconic heroes Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith and Red XIII’s escape from the dystopian city of Midgar in pursuit of Sephiroth – one of the greatest antagonists in gaming history.

Thankfully, FFVII Rebirth is a standalone title. So, whether you decide to go back and play Remake first, or you’re coming straight from the recently released FFXVI, you’ll easily immerse yourself into this cult classic.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of surprises awaiting longtime fans. From a host of new characters to expanded storylines, extra side quests and a bigger and better world to explore, players will feel like the game has been reborn from the ashes. Combat has also had an exciting upgrade with Synergy Abilities that allow two characters to team up and unleash a devastating blow to enemies.

The PlayStation exclusive has also been treated to a huge makeover, with updated graphics that fully showcase the PS5 console as the powerhouse it is.

Anticipation for the remake has been ripe. In addition to overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board, plenty of gamers shared their enthusiasm in the lead-up to the launch.

One wrote, “Final Fantasy 7 is one of the greatest games ever made. Still remember playing the original game. These remakes are epic and bring back so many memories.”

“I feel like my whole childhood was waiting for this moment,” another penned.

Someone said, “There is a ridiculous amount of content in this game. They really aren’t leaving anything out. Simply amazing.”

Pricing for the Standard Edition of the game starts from $114.95, while the FFXII Rebirth Twin Pack, which lets you play both Remake and Rebirth, is also available for the same price.
