The MonsterVerse — a shared fictional universe featuring Godzilla and King Kong — was first established by Legendary Entertainment in 2014 and has since produced four movies.
The last instalment of that series, Godzilla vs. Kong, was the first to have the two characters share the same screen and was the eighth highest-grossing film in 2021.
It has now been confirmed that Godzilla vs. Kong's currently untitled sequel will begin filming in Australia later this year.

It will be the fifth film in the MonsterVerse, the fifth Godzilla film produced by a Hollywood studio, the 36th film in the Godzilla franchise, and the 12th in the King Kong franchise.
When is the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel coming out?
With production for the sequel beginning this summer in Australia, the official release date has been set by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures as March 15, 2024—three years after its precursor.
It will also be released in IMAX theatres.
Who is in the cast of the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel?
Details about the project are still kept under wraps, with the only actor currently attached to the film being Legion star Dan Stevens in the lead role.

However, there will be familiar faces in the production team, with Adam Wingard—who previously directed Blair Witch—returning to the series to direct, and Eric McLeod—who produced the Austin Powers and Pirates of the Caribbean movies—to produce.
Godzilla vs. Kong Sequel plot
While the project is still in pre-production at this stage, Adam Wingard has previously stated he would want to continue the story from where it was last left off.
Initial reports before the sequel's official announcement suggested it would potentially be titled Son of Kong.

While doing press for Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, Wingard said he had one wish for the franchise: more monsters and fewer humans.
"I think Godzilla vs. Kong is the first time that we've really truly been able to have full sequences where the film leaves the humans and stays with the monsters, just like any other character," he told EW.
"That's a big breakthrough VFX-wise and even story-wise.
"If there's another MonsterVerse movie, in my opinion, it should be the first full-on monster film.

"I would say, 30 percent humans, the rest monsters, basically flipping the formula of what a lot of these movies generally are.
"I think people are ready for it."
