Harry Styles and Chris Pine have denied the rumours that Styles spat on Pine at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday (4 September).

A short video from the event recently surfaced where the 28-year-old British singer attended the Don't Worry Darling premiere alongside 42-year-old American actor Chris Pine. You can see it here:

The two actors are starring in the upcoming American psychological thriller, directed by Olivia Wilde.

Don't Worry Darling is jam-packed with celebs including the likes of Florence Pugh, Nick Kroll and Gemma Chan who join both Styles and Pine on screen.

While many people seem to think that Styles spat on his his co-star just before taking a seat right beside him during the film festival – this is untrue.

In a statement to Variety, a rep for Pine said: "This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Meanwhile, sources close to Styles also denied the rumour.

During the event, Pine, who was also sitting next to Styles' girlfriend Olivia Wilde, can be seen looking down at his lap just after he stops clapping.

The two don't look at each other but Pine begins smiling as Styles takes his seat.

The short clip has since sent the internet into a storm of speculation.

One Twitter user posted: "Harry Styles appears to spit on Chris Pine. I won't sleep until I know the truth."

"After 400 rewatches, I still can't decide," wrote a second.

A third chimed in with: "Something happened... Chris Pine clearly reacted to something."

However, others weren't as persuaded by the fan theories.

Picking up on the recent speculations of drama that Don't Worry Darling has received, one Twitter user wrote: "Harry didn’t spit on Chris. Now you can sleep well and rest easy. I figure you probably thought this was a bit of fun, but it’s not. There’s been so much drama surrounding this movie and it’s just not funny right now."

"I don’t see any spitting," another echoed, "this video doesn’t show anything except the massive tension between them."

Don't Worry Darling is set to be released 23 September 2022.
