Jenna Ortega wants Wednesday Addams to be even darker for season two

The lead star hopes the Netflix show will allow her to become an anti-hero.

The hit Netflix show Wednesday has taken the world by storm and everyone is lapping up the dark, gothic world of the Addams family once again.

But the star of the show wants the second season to be even darker (if that's possible).

Wednesday is centred on the eldest child of the family as she gets sent to Nevermore Academy after being kicked out of several other schools.

"The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy," the synopsis says.

"Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

Yeah, we told you, it's pretty dark.

But Jenna Ortega is hoping the second season will really up the ante on her character and allow her to dive deeper into her goth roots.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she wants to see Wednesday Addams reach her full potential.

"I kind of want her to be darker," she explained.

"I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness.

"Kind of, 'Man, how's this guy doing this?'

"I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero."

Jenna Ortega plays the title role in Wednesday.

Netflix hasn't confirmed a second season is even on the cards yet, however one of the show's executive producers said they've already started throwing around ideas on what they could do.

Miles Millar admits the show focused a lot on Wednesday Addams and they would love to see what else can be fleshed out if they go a little deeper into the family lore.

“We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” Millar explained to TV Line.

Ortega is joined on screen by Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán portrays Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez has been cast as Pugsley Addams, and Fred Armisen is Uncle Fester.

Millar said these actors have brilliantly rebooted the classic characters and it would be interesting to see where they could go.

We'll have to wait and see what happens, but considering Wednesday has broken records left, right and centre, you can bet your bottom dollar you haven't seen the last of Wednesday Addams.
