Fans are excited for what could be Josh Peck’s ‘career pivot of a lifetime’, following the news that he joined the cast of an epic new Christopher Nolan film

But now, he has signed himself up for Nolan’s WWII flick Oppenheimer, which is costing a reported $100 million to make ahead of its release in July 2023.

According to Variety, Peck will feature as Kenneth Bainbridge, the real-life scientist involved in the Manhattan Project – the code name for the US research into and development of the nuclear weapons in the 1940s.

Alongside the former children’s TV star, Cillian Murphy is set to star as the titular character Robert Oppenheimer, who was the wartime head of the Los Alamos Laboratory and one of the people credited with creating the atomic bomb.

As per Variety, Murphy will be ‘surrounded by an ‘A-list ensemble, including Emily Blunt as biologist and botanist Kitty Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves Jr. and Robert Downey, Jr. as founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Lewis Strauss’.

Florence Pugh will play psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie will feature as theoretical physicist Edward Teller and Josh Hartnett will become pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence, while Rami Malek, Michael Angarano, Alden Ehrenreich, Kenneth Branagh and Matthew Modine will also appear in the movie.

Many fans are excited to see Peck in action in the film, saying the role marks something ‘completely different’ for him.

One tweeted: “Josh Peck making the career pivot of a lifetime from How I Met Your Father to Oppenheimer (2023), potentially.”

Someone else said: “Josh Peck career is gonna explode after he slays in Oppenheimer!”

A third wrote: “Everyone is in Oppenheimer at this point lol. But seriously I am interested to see Josh Peck do something completely different.”

A fourth added: “I always thought Josh Peck was an underrated actor and that he'd make a great mainstream comedy movie star, but I never expected him to star in a project like this. This is awesome and hopefully Miranda Cosgrove will also get some high-profile work.”

Oppenheimer is due for release in cinemas on 21 July 2023.
