Kath & Kim Cast Set To Come Back Together For 20th Anniversary Reunion Special

Kath & Kim Cast Set To Come Back Together For 20th Anniversary Reunion Special

Kath, Kim, Kel, Sharon and Bretty are filming some new material.

The cast of the iconic series Kath & Kim is set to come back together to film a reunion special to mark the show's 20th anniversary.

The foxy ladies from Fountain Lakes, Gina Riley, Jane Turner, Magda Szubanski, along with Glenn Robbins (Kel) and Peter Rowsthorn (Bretty), have reportedly been convinced to get back under one roof for a special show.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the actors have been meeting at the NEP studio complex in South Melbourne to film 'new material'.

The program is set to air later this year.

The anniversary reunion special is expected to have some best-of scenes as well as 'rare' footage and 'new sketch material'.

It's unclear what channel it will be broadcast from considering Kath & KIm has a storied history with multiple networks in Australia.

ABC/Seven/Netflix

The SMH reports ABC, Seven and Netflix are all 'contenders' at the moment.

The reunion special will reportedly be similar to the one HBO did for Friends, where the cast got a chance to reflect on the show's legacy and talk about their favourite scenes and moments.

There have been rumours for years that the TV legends would be getting back together for a reboot.

Magda Szubanski, who played Kim's second-best friend Sharon, revealed last year that it was all purely speculation at that point.

"I think it should be off the table. It holds such a special place in people's memories," she said to Kyle and Jackie O's radio show.

"If we did a live show, which was a 'best of' or something like that, that's different.

"But to actually try and do a whole new series, I think you can never capture that magic again."

Sadly, the Kath & Kim cast won't get to do what the Friends actors did when they were invited back to the set.

The home that the Aussie comedy series was filmed in was recently pulled down for renovations.

It was a shock to the system to see a piece of TV history destroyed, however, life goes on.

Everyone will be waiting to see when the reunion special drops onto the telly so stay tuned.
