Johnny Depp's Team Says Amber Heard Has Given 'The Performance Of Her Life'

But Heard's legal team has hit back with a similarly savage statement saying Depp's defamation claim is 'falling apart rapidly'.

Johnny Depp's lawyers have attacked Amber Heard in a new statement, claiming the Aquaman star has put on 'the performance of her life' while testifying in court.

In the statement, Depp's team said Heard's stories of abuse have changed with 'new and convenient details' as time goes on.

The actor's spokesperson maintained that Depp's 'recollections have remained exactly the same throughout the six painful years since her first allegations were made'.

"As Mr Depp's counsel correctly predicted in their opening statements last month, Ms Heard did indeed deliver 'the performance of her life' in her direct examination," the spokesperson said.

“His truth - the truth – is the same no matter the environment in which it is has been presented..”

The statement added a stark warning for Heard and her team: "The upcoming cross examination from Mr Depp's team will be most telling, and will certainly highlight the many fallacies Ms Heard has now attempted to pass off as fact throughout her convoluted testimony."

Amber Heard’s team has hit back at the statement from Depp’s lawyers, claiming his defamation claim is ‘falling apart so rapidly that his counsel are turning from prosecutor to persecutor’.

“They boast that Mr Depp’s story has not changed,” the statement said.

The statement continued: “If so, since he lost the Domestic Violence Restraining Order and he resoundingly lost the libel case in the UK, perhaps he should consider a new strategy rather than the recycled approach of attacking the victim, and refusing to take responsibility for his own conduct.”

Heard’s team claimed that Depp has an ‘inability to distinguish fact from fiction’.

They also lambasted the actor for his behaviour during the trial, accusing him of lacking courage while drawing ‘doodles’ and snickering.

The trial has concluded for a weeks' recess and jurors have been warned not to look at any social media during the break to ensure their opinions aren't influenced.

Heard will continue her testimony in the defamation suit against her, filed by her ex-husband Johnny Depp for damages of $50 million ($AUD 70.4m, £40m).

Heard has counter-sued for $100 million ($AUD 140.8m, £80m).

Depp's legal action came after Depp wrote a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, which was headlined: "I spoke up against sexual violence - and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change."

While Heard didn't name Depp in the article, it was 'reasonably inferred' that she was talking about her former husband.

Depp has filed his suit over three statements in the article: the op-ed headline, how Heard described herself as 'a public figure representing domestic abuse', and the third was when she wrote she 'had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real-time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse'.
