Jack Black has paid tribute to School of Rock star Kevin Clark after the actor tragically died.

The 32-year-old, who was known for playing Freddy in the 2003 movie, was struck by a driver on Wednesday 26 May while cycling in Avondale, Chicago, with police saying he was hit by a Hyundai Sonata at around 1.20 am.

Black posted a side-by-side photo of Clark as a child actor and as an adult and shared how crushed he was by the awful news.

"Devastating news. Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School of Rock community," he said.

Clark's death was confirmed by his band Dreadwolf, who shared a tribute from another group called Blind Adam and the Federal League.

They wrote: "The Chicago music scene lost a wonderful, big hearted dude today.

"There is so much to say and I don't even know where to begin but we are better for having known @kev_beats. I'm glad we got to play one last show with you before the pandemic, we love you very much!

"Condolences to our Chicago punk rock brothers @dreadwolfband. May the memory of Kevin Clark live on forever!"

As the Chicago Sun Times reports, the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County medical examiner's office said paramedics found him at Logan Boulevard and took him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2.04am.

Police said that the driver of the car that hit him - a 20-year-old woman - was issued citations.

Appearing to respond to the tragic news, Clark's former School of Rock co-star Rivkah Reyes wrote on Twitter: "This isn't happening." They added a broken heart emoji.

A memorial fundraiser has already been set up for the later star and has already raised more than $2,400 in a few hours.

A description from the organiser reads: "I'm creating this page to help with funeral and memorial expenses for Kevin Clark.

"He was a vibrant, loving , caring rock n' roller and gentle guy, whose infectious smile touched everyone he knew and everyone he just met. His family, friends and music community adored him. Kevin's loving, caring and friendly nature came from his Mom, Allison, I'm sure. Those who know her will agree.

"He is gone way too soon. His memory will live on in those who love him, those who he taught drumming, and in his music community."
