Nick Cannon said he's been on a 'celibacy journey' after revealing he's expecting his eighth child.

The TV host recently held a gender reveal party with model Bre Tiesi that confirmed his next bundle of joy was well and truly on the way.

He admitted on an episode of The Nick Cannon Show this week that his life was 'out of control' and he needed to reign in his behaviour.

"My therapist was one of the [people] who said that I should probably be celibate because I had shared that news, that Bre was pregnant," the Wild 'n Out star explained.

People have been questioning when exactly he started this no-sex journey because he admitted back in October that he was going to lay low for a while.

During an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast he said he has 'enough children, enough frolicking'.

"I'm good right now... I'm trying. I didn't say I'm perfect. I love all my kids," he said.

When he was asked whether he broke his celibacy in getting Bre pregnant he politely hit back by saying the journey began when he first found out she had a baby.

"So for anybody who's thinking: 'Oh he wasn't celibate,' I was!" he explained on the talk show.

He added: "That was the reason why I started my celibacy journey back then. I was [celibate] because I was dealing with [this].

"Honestly, the celibacy did help me through the journey of getting one with myself and dealing with this."

Nick has twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with his ex-wife Mariah Carey, along with a four-year-old named Golden Sagon and one-year-old called Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell.

He has also fathered seven-month-old twins, Zion and Zillion, with Abby De La Rosa.

But the TV host was devastated late last year when Zen, the five-month-old son he shared with Alyssa Scott, died from a brain tumour.

He said an appointment with the doctor, which he thought would be routine, proved to be far more serious.

He recalled: "I always noticed he had a cough and so I wanted to check it out.

"He had this interesting breathing and by the time he was two months I noticed he had this nice sized head too - a cannon head.

"We didn't think anything of it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine."

He recently revealed that he knew Bre was pregnant before Zen's death and he wanted to take time to grieve before making a proper announcement.

"Even going through all of that, this was always in the back of my mind, like, 'What is the right time? How do I share this?'" he said (according to Bustle). "No one, we didn't expect Zen to pass away ... All of the news was so unexpected.

"I wanted to definitely respect the grieving process with [Zen's mom, Alyssa Scott], and Bre was respectful enough-she held off making our announcements and speaking on social media."

However, TMZ published pictures of their gender reveal party to the world and the secret was leaked.
