From The Tudors to Black Sails to Rome, we all love a sexy story of yesteryear and we love them even more when they've got an all-star cast.
Upcoming flick The Northman ticks all the boxes.
It's described as an 'epic historical film', which is code for 'sexy romp in period costume', and stars everyone's favourite vampire Alexander Skarsgård.

According to the film's synopsis, Skarsgård plays the role of Viking prince Amleth, who sets out on a mission of revenge after his father is murdered. Love it.
The film also features Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and none other than the Icelandic princess herself, Björk.
It's due for release at the end of April next year and is directed by Robert Eggers.
Eggers isn't exactly a household name, but he was behind 2019's Oscar bait The Lighthouse, which Dafoe also starred in alongside Robert Pattinson.

He also directed period horror piece The Witch in 2015, which featured Taylor-Joy in her first-ever film appearance.
Both The Witch and The Lighthouse are critically acclaimed and the hopes are high for The Northman.
Eggers is also currently working on an untitled TV project about the life of Russian mystic Rasputin.
Amleth's dad, King Aurvandill, who is portrayed by Hawke, was the inspiration for William Shakespeare's Hamlet and is a figure of Scandinavia medieval legend.

The story sees Amleth flee after Aurvandill's death, but return to challenge the traitorous Fjölnir for the throne.
As someone who has binge-watched everything that could even slightly be considered a historic epic, I am so keen for this one.
Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson, who worked on the screenplay with Eggers, is also a regular collaborator of Björk's, so we can be sure things are going to get a little bit artsy.
In addition to this already epic cast, The Northman will also feature Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, aka The Mountain from Game of Thrones.

Filming was done in Ireland and was slightly delayed due to Covid-19, but the production wrapped up last year so there shouldn't be any more barriers between us and Viking drama.
